Wow, it feels like a billion years since I've been on the internet. Chalk it up to housesitting at places with no wireless and weird home connectivity. But I am home now, and I am totally terrified to even look at my flist or TWoP. I hate playing catch up. What I have missed?
Summer, thus far, has been fun. I have worked a lot, read a lot, and written a lot. Good times. I've also watched a ridiculous amount of TV (on DVD), and now I'm kind of obsessed with
The Tudors. A coworker and I watched almost the entire second season in one sitting.
Highlights from the books I read:
The Devil You Know, by Mike Carey, was a really good paranormal thriller; I also really enjoyed
Black Ships by Jo Graham, which I just finished this afternoon and will probably become my next staff favorite at work. I'm about fifty pages into
Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin and I really, really wish I hadn't looked at the reading group questions on her website, because I think I now know who the killer is. Boo. I'm also reading
The Black Death by John Hatcher, which is really interesting; it's like a docudrama in book form.
Went to the midnight showing of
Half-Blood Prince the other day, which was hectic due to ticket issues and not as much fun as it usually is. Some of "my" students from last semester were in line in front of me, which I found semi-hilarious. We did MadLibs in line and that was a lot of fun. As for the movie itself... I have mixed feelings, and definite feelings of total panic about my favorite part of
Deathly Hallows, which I think they're going to cut out. Great casting though; Blaise and Lavender were
perfect.
I'm not going to ComicCon this year. This makes me extremely angry, at myself mostly for procrastinating.
